Senetors see opportunity in Egypt

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that Egypt has an opening for democratic leadership amid the chaos of the ongoing protests.

"All of these rights that individuals have are not confined to the United States of the America and our allies," McCain said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I still think that we have a real opportunity to see a democratic transition."

McCain, who serves as the ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak knows what's going on in his own country, and that it is up to the United States to be a "helpful, assisting but insisting partner" to the country.

Anti-government demonstrations started Tuesday throughout Egypt demanding an end Mubarak's 30-year rule. Egyptians are protesting high unemployment, government corruption and poverty in the country.

"We cannot afford a Tiananmen Square in Cairo," McCain told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley, in reference to the 1989 pro-democracy movement that was crushed in China.

President Obama needs to "lay out a scenario of what we think the Egyptian people should have every right to expect," he said.

Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer said the army's involvement on the ground in Egypt is a positive sign.

"My hope is that Egyptian politics - which has tended to be secular, certainly wanting more rights and deserving more rights, both economic and political - takes root in that country now and maybe we're at the time where it can," Schumer said.

Obama: Fix illegal immigration 'once and for all'

WASHINGTON DC—President Barack Obama said the United States must resolve "once and for all" its illegal immigration problem, calling for bipartisan cooperation in his State of the Union speech Tuesday.

"I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration," he said in prepared remarks released by the White House.

"I am prepared to work with Republicans and Democrats to protect our borders, enforce our laws, and address the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows."

Obama has maintained he is willing to find a compromise to address the status of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants, many of whom are Latino, in the United States. But lawmakers disagree over how to resolve the issue.

"I know that debate will be difficult and take time," he said. "But tonight, let's agree to make that effort."

Ted Williams headed to rehab

Updated: 5:56 p.m.

And so it goes. In either a brilliant publicity stunt for Dr. Phil, or in a serious intervention for a troubled man, Ted Williams will be heading to rehab, according to a report from USA Today.

Rather than being sober for the past two and a half years, as he's claimed, the homeless-to-Hollywood Williams has been drinking heavily every day. Here's hoping the fast fame leads to quick help for the man.

Updated: 1:52 p.m.

The Post's Web Hostess with the Mostess, Monica Hesse wants to tackle some of the questions around Ted Williams on her live online chat at 2 p.m. Go here to discuss:

"What responsibility do we have to our flash-in-the-pan celebrities? In Mr. Williams case, should the journalist who discovered him insisted on a background check? Should people have thought more about the possible repurcussions that fame could have on a man who had been homeless? Do we owe anything to our Internet stars besides a forward?"

Update: 5:38 p.m.
Uh-oh. After the golden-voiced homeless man skyrocketed to fame thanks to a viral video highlighting his radio-ready voice, Ted Williams made all the requisite morning show stops, made a commercial for Kraft and was detained by the police.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Williams was detained after police were called to the Renaissance Hotel on a disturbance call. Reportedly, he and his daughter were in a heated argument, but when the cops broke it up, neither wanted to press charges so both were released. A hotel employee called the police because of the noise.

The Most Affordable Cities in America

Billionaire Warren Buffett has made Omaha, Neb., synonymous with savvy stock investing, but the city is also highly attractive for those seeking an affordable lifestyle. In fact, the Midwestern metro ranks No. 1 on our Best Bargain Cities list.

What do we mean by a bargain? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as an "advantageous deal." On that score Omaha qualifies, thanks to a list-leading combination of affordable real estate and a healthy ratio of income to living costs.

To compile our bargain city list, we started with the 50 largest U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and then compiled a mix of data aimed at handicapping the overall affordability of living in each.

We looked at the current median asking price of homes on the market in each city, using data from Altos Research, a San Francisco-based real estate research firm. We got the median salaries of workers with bachelor's degrees or higher from PayScale.com and compared it to a cost-of-living index from Moody's Economy.com (the cost-of-living index factors in transportation, insurance, food, utilities and other factors). Finally, we factored in the latest unemployment rates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to reflect the relative strength of local economies.

The result is a list of the top 15 urban affordability hot spots.

Omaha Stakes

As the home of major corporations like Union Pacific, ConAgra Foods and Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, Omaha boasts inexpensive real estate, a low cost of living and an unemployment rate little more than half the national average.

Omaha's job market will actually grow by 1.6% in 2011, according to Moody's Economy. In fact, the Nebraskan hub will be a "city that thrives in 2011," adds online real estate database Trulia.com.

"Its home prices have stayed steady through the recession, owing to the fact that they never saw the inflation of the bubble era," explains Tara-Nicholle Nelson, consumer educator for Trulia.com. "In Omaha, it seems to be steady as she goes."

The Midwest dominated our bargain city list. Other heartland metropolises offering good deals include Indianapolis, Ind. (No.4); Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. (No. 7); Oklahoma's namesake city (No. 9) and Tulsa (No. 15); and Ohio's three largest metros, Cincinnati (No. 5), Cleveland (No.8) and Columbus (No. 13).

Askofu RC atishiwabastola madhabahuni

Elizabeth Edwards' will leaves everything to her children

Elizabeth Edwards left everything to her children, with no mention of her estranged husband, John Edwards, in her will.

"All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles ... to be divided among them ..." Edwards says in the document dated December 1.

It names her daughter, 28-year-old Catharine, as the executor of the will.

Elizabeth Edwards died on December 7 after a battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

Edwards has three children -- Catharine, Emma and John. Her son, Wade, died in a 1996 car crash.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after her husband lost his bid for vice president in November 2004.

In 2006, after her initial cancer diagnosis, she wrote "Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers," which chronicled the aftermath of her son's death and her battle with the disease.

In 2008, months after withdrawing from the presidential race, John Edwards admitted that tabloid claims about an extramarital affair with former campaign videographer Rielle Hunter were true.

Eventually, he also admitted to fathering a child with Hunter -- an allegation he initially denied even after conceding the affair.

John Edwards said the affair happened in 2006 while his wife's cancer was in remission. He said he informed his wife at the time and asked for her forgiveness.

10 wauwawa kwenye ghasia mjini Arusha

Taarifa zinasema biashara kadhaa zilichomwa moto kwenye vurugu hizo.
